FIRE RESISTANCE
The Building Regulations define and require that the installation of all structures within specific locations of a building be of a proven and tested/assessed design with valid certification, capable of providing the necessary levels of fire resistance for Integrity, Insulation and Load-bearing Capacity (where specified).
Please note that in all cases of fire protection a formal acceptance of the relevant Luxcrete assessment and/or appraisal should be obtained by the buyer from the relevant authorities responsible for the project.
**DEFINITIONS: (In accordance with BS476: Part 20: 1987)
Fire Resistance – The ability of an element of building construction to withstand exposure to a standard temperature/time and pressure regime without loss of its fire separating function for a given time.
Integrity – The ability of a specimen of a separating element to contain a fire to specified criteria for collapse, freedom from holes, cracks and fissures and sustained flaming on the unexposed face.
Insulation – The ability of a specimen of a separating element to restrict the temperature rise of the unexposed face to below specified levels.
Load-bearing Capacity – The ability of a specimen of a load-bearing element to support its test load, where appropriate, without exceeding specified criteria with respect to either the extent of, or rate of, deformation or both.
